Academic Invitational Meets and Tournaments

Rather than going to the district meet without any formal experience in a contest, most high school students attend invitational or practice meets in their local area. While the UIL does not govern such meets, most host schools abide by UIL rules.

For schools that host an Invitational Meet, UIL prepares two sets of high school tests (Set A and Set B) that may be purchased for use during dates listed on the UIL calendar. Schools planning to host meets on dates other than these will need to order tests from other sources. Invitational materials are not for individual use or to be used solely as study materials. They will only be sold to schools hosting invitational meets.

If you need to make a correction on a previously submitted invitational meet, email changes to UIL Academics at .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).

The intent of this tournament is to help Novice debaters get started in somewhat difficult activity. Each team is to have one “Angel” (experienced debater) with them for all their rounds. Each school is responsible for supplying their own “Angel”. Angels can be a Varsity debaters, graduated debater,s or a coach. The Angel is their advisor and mentor, not their partner. The Angel may help them flow, decide on a strategy, and “prep” them between speeches. We will extend “prep time” to 15 minutes per side for round 1, and 10 minutes for round 2, to give them time to do this job. The angel may not give speeches or portions of speeches or call out prompts (questions, answers, arguments, or suggestions) to debaters who have the floor for a speech. We do not want this to be a case of “My Angel can beat your Angel;” the rounds are to be between the novice debaters, not the Angels. We urge the Angels to gradually decrease the amount of help they give their debaters as the rounds progress so that by Round 3 the debaters are more “on their own” than they were in Round 1.

Salado High School Presents the Online UIL CX Scrimmage Classic February 14th, 2024 Welcome to the Salado Online UIL CX Scrimmage. This tournament is primarily being held with the intent to help schools across the state get 4-5 rounds of CX debate to help them meet their 8 round rule requirements. NOTE: We will do the best we can to avoid conferences from hitting each other, however, we CANNOT PROMISE that you WON’T hit someone from your conference. We encourage you to still debate to allow everyone the ability to claim that round as a true completed round. We will be using tabroom for registration and balloting. We will use NSDA campus for virtual rounds. Students will need their own tabroom account linked to their institution/school.

We will offer all traditional UIL speaking events LD debate, Persuasive, Informative, Prose and Poetry. These tournaments are intended for schools or teams that prefer "UIL style" forensics. We will offer 6 rounds of LD debate and 4 rounds of IEs. Students will not be able to cross-enter. We will be using tabroom for registration and balloting. We will use NSDA campus for virtual rounds. Students will need their own tabroom account linked to their institution/school.
