I was in Speech and Debate representing Needville High School from 1998-2001. Additionally, I debated in the Class 3A State Tournament in 2000.
Currently, I travel with Austin Peace Academy and help Mr. Alex Pritchard by representing the school as a judge in UIL Tournaments in and around the Austin/Central Texas area. I judge about 5-6 tournaments per year and have been doing so for the past 4 years.
Judging Philosophy
CX
Judging approach: Policy Maker
Policy priority: Communication skills and resolution of substantive issues are of equal importance
Evidence philosophy: Quality of evidence is more important than quantity of evidence
Paradigm: I judge C-X Debate and though I value stock issues, I primarily judge on the impacts proposed throughout each round. I do see importance of stock issues but more so as an important structure to highlight the proposed resolution. Until proven otherwise by both evidence and/or weighted impacts/disadvantages, I value the proposed plan the Affirmative sets in the 1AC. Also, I will give credit to a contextual argument based on theory, especially in regards to an attack on the Aff plan and solvency, but overall I give precedent to arguments based on evidence.
