Judging qualifications:
Speech/Debate (non-interp) is about presenting logical argumentation in an understanding manner. Claims should be backed up by warrants of evidence and/or solid reasoning. I do not games playing or gimmicky tactics. The winner participant(s) will be the one(s) who best presented and defended their argument. I debated in the 1980's in high school and returned to debate as a coach from 2002-2010. I now teach English. I have a degree in both English and Theatre arts. I have also taught theatre and coached interp events over the last 18 years, directed numerous productions, contest managed both speech/debate tournaments and OAP. I currently am 3rd Director for Channelview HS OAP cast.

Judging Philosophy

CX

Rounds judged: 0
Judging approach: Other (please explain below)
Policy priority: Communication skills and resolution of substantive issues are of equal importance
Evidence philosophy: Quality of evidence is more important than quantity of evidence
Paradigm: I have a judging paradigm I call "The LAZY JUDGE." I start from a position of Tab and I will not do unnecessary work for the debaters, meaning I will not fill in blanks, accept unwarranted claims, or give the benefit of he doubt to either side. I don't like spreading, as it is a gimmick and does not effectively communicate ideas which is what debate should be about. I do like to hear stock issue arguments but I do not default to them.

LD

Rounds judged: 0
Approach: Communication skills and resolution of substantive issues are of equal importance
Philosophy:
LD relies more heavily on communication skills than CX as many arguments get philosophical to the point of being esoteric. I do believe that both sides are obligated to support a value in their position and usually the victor is the one who wins the value-clash in the round.
