Judging qualifications:
I qualified for UIL regionals and TFA state in LD and Extemp two years in a row. I have also (informally) coached high school students in both areas, although I am not currently coaching and haven’t done so since 2005.
I am an attorney. While in law school, I competed in Board of Barristers competitions in moot court, mock trial, and negotiations. I have ample experience in judging, as I have judged at several high school debate tournaments in the past and have held the role of Judging Director and Tournament Director for debate tournaments in the past.
Judging Philosophy
CX
Judging approach: Stock Issues
Policy priority: Resolution of substantive issues is more important than communication skills
Evidence philosophy: Quantity of evidence and quality of evidence are of equal importance
Paradigm: I would rather not judge CX because I have limited experience. That being said, I am very pragmatic. I like structure, data, and solvency.
LD
Approach: Resolution of substantive issues is more important than communication skills
Philosophy:
I do not like tabula rasa. I need to see a value and criterion, backed up by contentions and subpoints which contain pragmatic arguments supported by philosophy. The quality and logic of the argument is very important to me.
