Judging qualifications:
During my high school speech career I competed in every speaking event offered by both UIL and TFA at least once, with success in each one. I was most successful in both debate and extemp, receiving state and national recognition. I have spent my four years of college away from competition, but have stayed involved by instructing and judging in my spare time away from college and work. In the past four years I have worked with state champions in UIL, as well as knockout round participants at TFA State and NSDA Nationals.
Judging Philosophy
CX
Judging approach: Other (please explain below)
Policy priority: Communication skills and resolution of substantive issues are of equal importance
Evidence philosophy: Quantity of evidence and quality of evidence are of equal importance
Paradigm: I think debate is among the most important activities you can participate it, because it teaches you valuable perspective from multiple sides of issues and critical thinking skills. That being said, I know the "rules of the game" and will listen to any argument. However, debate is a communication event and you have to be able to sell your audience (AKA me-the judge). Essentially, I vote for whoever can sell their point and impact the round the best. To clarify, you do not have to run kritical arguments to win my ballot, nor do you have to spread - I've seen very, very talented teams that do neither. I'll sum it up like this: my paradigm is play your game and sell the round to me. In real life, communication and persuasion is key, tell me why I should vote for you and why. Most importantly, have fun, learn, and fake it until you make it - no one is ever going to look back on a job resume and hire or fire you based on the round you won or lost today!

I think debate is among the most important activities you can participate it because it teaches you valuable perspective from multiple sides of issues and critical thinking skills. That being said, I know the "rules of the game" and will listen to any argument. However, in LD, I am more fond of traditional rounds, and like to see a lot of framework clash in those debates. Debate is a communication event and you have to be able to sell your audience (AKA me-the judge). Essentially I vote for whoever can sell their point and impact the round the best. I'll sum it up like this: my paradigm is play your game and sell the round to me. In real life, communication and persuasion is key, tell me why I should vote for you and why.
