Judging qualifications:
I am qualified to judge the Lincoln Douglas debate category because I have been invested in the act of speech and debate for over two years. My first experience debating was the summer after freshmen year at the National Hispanic Institute's "Great Debate." After that, I joined my high school's speech and debate program led by Melissa Hardaway. Hardaway exposed me to certain philosophies and knowledge of debate that will resonate with me even throughout my future in debate at the University of Texas at Austin. I've learned that debate delves deeper into moral and philosophical issues than just the idea of two people intensely arguing against each other. And lastly, there will always be two sides to an argument - despite there usually being a side that you more personally agree with.

Approach: Communication skills and resolution of substantive issues are of equal importance
Philosophy:
My philosophy as an LD judge is not holding one aspect of debate to be inherently more of a weighing factor in making a decision; rather, judging should be collectively analyzing all aspects of a debater's delivery of their arguments. Debate thrives on the idea of communication and verbally expressing oneself via their personal voice, this makes communication skills both necessary and important. Debate also thrives on the idea of civil argumentation of multiple sides of prevalent issues and conflicts within society, making argumentation equally important to communication skills.
