Judging Philosophy

CX

Rounds judged: 3
Judging approach: Policy Maker
Policy priority: Resolution of substantive issues is more important than communication skills
Evidence philosophy: Quantity of evidence and quality of evidence are of equal importance
Paradigm: I am a tab judge. I expect to be given voters and an impact calculus. I also expect the stock issues to be present in the affirmative case. A counterplan should be mutually exclusive, have net benefits, and be topical. A kritik should have a link, implication, and alternative. A disadvantage should have uniqueness, a link, impacts, and an internal link. I tolerate spreading, but prefer clarity of statement of quantity of evidence.

LD

Rounds judged: 6
Approach: Resolution of substantive issues is more important than communication skills
Philosophy:
Both the affirmative and negative should have a framework consisting of a value and a criterion. The criterion must achieve the value, and be capable of weighing evidence in the contentions. The contentions should explicitly argue for or against the resolution. Contentions should not be used to justify the framework. There shouldn't be any spreading in LD. Debaters should be as persuasive as possible.
