Judging Philosophy

CX

Rounds judged: 3
Judging approach: Tabula Rasa
Policy priority: Communication skills and resolution of substantive issues are of equal importance
Evidence philosophy: Quantity of evidence and quality of evidence are of equal importance
Paradigm: The topic of the debate is the most important factor. The debate should center on the topic. Arguments of various varieties can add value to the debate but should be framed within the topic at hand. Critiques, Disadvantages, Impact weight, substance, significance, topicality, etc. should be included as necessary/preferred if they add value to the debate. I prefer to value arguments based on how they are presented, refuted, and defended by both sides. There should not be limits to the form of argument ran, if run correctly and the argument can be framed within the debate. Argumentation should also be valued highly. If debaters do not clash, the purpose of holding a debate is lost. A debate is not possible without both sides of the argument.
