My speech experience was 4 years of persuasive/domestic extemp. My background includes a B.A. in Goverment and a B.S. in Communication Studies from the University of Texas at Austin. I received an M.Ed in Higher Education Administration from Texas State University. In many of my current and previous roles I have had a heavy research role. Additionally through my education I’ve gained numerous skills that I could pass on to high school students including how to argument and decision making, critical thinking skills, macro to micro level thinking etc.
Judging Philosophy
CX
Judging approach: Policy Maker
Policy priority: Communication skills and resolution of substantive issues are of equal importance
Evidence philosophy: Quantity of evidence and quality of evidence are of equal importance
Paradigm: 1) I use to spread in high school/college. It’s been a while since I’ve judged so my ear isn’t as trained to it. With that being said, I’m fine with it, but if you’re unclear I’m going to let you know. If you don’t listen I will doc speaker points. I care much more about the argument at hand, than how many cards you can pump out per minute. 2) I like impact calc and care a lot about how you build your arguments together. Throwing everything against the wall and seeing what the aff/neg doesn’t pick up is not a reason to vote you up. Convince me of your arguments and don’t act like 2 ships passing in the night. I love critical thinking skills! 3) I don’t mind K’s if you’re convincing, but you better know the ins and outs of it and your case if you’re running it. I won’t vote for it if you just reiterate your cards over and over again. 4) Case arguments are awesome. CPs and DisAds are great counters if you can draw the connection. I don’t care as much for T. 5) Any questions? Just ask!
