Judging qualifications:
As a student who grew up participating in UIL speech events, I appreciate the value that these contests provide for students. I have participated in and coached a variety of speech events, but specialize in oral interpretation. I have judged at numerous invitational, district, and state meets throughout the years. I look forward to offering feedback to students in the state of Texas and encouraging them for the future.
Judging Philosophy
CX
Judging approach: Policy Maker
Policy priority: Communication skills and resolution of substantive issues are of equal importance
Evidence philosophy: Quantity of evidence and quality of evidence are of equal importance
Paradigm: I grew up with Stock Issues judging, but now find myself weighing rounds as a Policy Maker. I like good clear arguments and explanations. I appreciate clear signposting and road mapping throughout the round. I will consider all types of arguments, but they must be applicable and explained. I do not like speed for speed's sake and will stop flowing if it's out of hand. I value the speaking style as much as the quality of the material.Speeches should be a convincing presentation, effectively communicating ideas.
