Judging qualifications:
Throughout my high school career, I not only participated in Cross-X Debate, but also dabbled in other speech events such as Persuasive and Informative Speaking. Utilizing the skills I accumulated through the aforementioned UIL events, including CX-Debate, I then partook into the adventure of Mock Trial Competition Team at UTRGV. Utilizing the building blocks of Mock Trial Competition, my experience will allow me to have an upper hand at understanding and judging CX-Debate. As of date, I am a current Political Science and English with a Creative Writing Emphasis and a Legal Studies minor graduate from the University of Texas at Rio Grande Valley awaiting acceptance from various law schools I have applied to.
Judging Philosophy
CX
Judging approach: Stock Issues
Policy priority: Communication skills and resolution of substantive issues are of equal importance
Evidence philosophy: Quantity of evidence and quality of evidence are of equal importance
Paradigm: I am looking for concrete arguments with strong statements and facts that support the stock issues, as well as debaters who portray good communication skills and strong speech patterns. I am looking for communication over facts because if you cannot utilize the facts to your advantage; you do not hold water.
