Judging qualifications:
I debated CX three years of highschool and debated LD for one year. Within those years, I participated at the state level as an alternate and once as a competitor. I competed for two years doing extemp- once qualifying for district. I have been judging for various highschools for nearly two years where I have judge CX debate, LD debate, extemp, prose and poetry, and big question. I have most experience with CX, LD, and extemp. I find that with each event, I expect the competitor to show detication and passion for their topic.
Judging Philosophy
CX
Judging approach: Stock Issues
Policy priority: Communication skills and resolution of substantive issues are of equal importance
Evidence philosophy: Quantity of evidence and quality of evidence are of equal importance
Paradigm: As a stock issues judge, I want to hear that the aff case has a strong solvency that cover all status quo harms. I would like the neg to clearly provide DA’, with attention to the full format; link and impact hold the most weight. Impact calcs can seal the deal. I am not a huge fan of spreading but I will make the exception if the speaker slows for taglines.
LD
Approach: Communication skills and resolution of substantive issues are of equal importance
