Judging Philosophy
CX
Judging approach: Policy Maker
Policy priority: Communication skills and resolution of substantive issues are of equal importance
Evidence philosophy: Quantity of evidence and quality of evidence are of equal importance
Paradigm: As a policy maker judge, I want to see how the affirmative impacts the status quo. If the negative can prove the status quo is enough and that implementing the affirmative’s plan will cause more damage, the debate flows neg. I look for clash between the aff and neg. Also, I stress that communication is key (ie I don’t appreciate spreading or excessive speed).
LD
Approach: Communication skills and resolution of substantive issues are of equal importance
Philosophy:
I look for a well thought out plan, which includes a value and criterion. A philosopher is also a plus, but not necessary. I also look for clash in the debate and good communication skills.
