Judging qualifications:
In high school, I specialized in CX and Congressional debate, but also participated in multiple IEs. I qualified for UIL Congress and CX state, and UIL Region in Persuasive Speaking all three years I did debate, and qualified for TFA state and NSDA two out of the three years.Qualifying for multiple circuits has meant that I am familiar with most debate and speaking styles and am willing to work for the competitors. As a college student, I still routinely keep up with current events, which is helpful when evaluating competitors knowledge. Furthermore, I still have a deep love and appreciation for speech and debate and want to see competitors learn and succeed.

Judging Philosophy

CX

Rounds judged: 6
Judging approach: Stock Issues
Policy priority: Communication skills and resolution of substantive issues are of equal importance
Evidence philosophy: Quality of evidence is more important than quantity of evidence
Paradigm: I value analytical arguments heavily-it shows me that you can use your brain, and sometimes analytical arguments are key to upholding or losing a stock issue. I will vote on theory and topicality if it is of substance and not merely a time suck.Stock issues are extremely important to me because without them you have no case therefore, if you can uphold your solvency, at the very least, then you will not win the round. Furthermore, I value empirical evidence when reading and defending DA's;however, it is the roll of the aff to make that argument. Counterplans are fine but there must be a clear understanding of why the neg is better than the aff. Kritiks are fine as well, as long as the neg actually understands what is being read. Communication and sportsmanship is important, and its important to make it a positive learning environment for all competitors.
