Judging qualifications:
Three years as a debate competitor through HS in LD, Extemp, Congress, and Impromptu. Qualified and competed at State two years of my HS debate time in Congress. 6 Years Judging experience after HS in HS debate tournaments. Judging CX, LD, Extemp primarily, however filling in for speech events as needed as had training from my HS debate coach on those events too. Being out of CX for a while I do worry about following the speed prior to any event experience in LD. Had to stop temporarily due to previous job.

Judging Philosophy

CX

Rounds judged: 0
Judging approach: Tabula Rasa
Policy priority: Resolution of substantive issues is more important than communication skills
Evidence philosophy: Quality of evidence is more important than quantity of evidence
Paradigm: You won't win solely by showing your opponent is 'wrong' you have to prove that you are right, better, or more correct. I will flow, and follow each argument but you are responsible for signposting. You can link multiple arguments, but they can be argued separately by your opponent the whole round. I will state clear 3 times if you are not annunciating clearly but speed itself is typically not an issue. This is Policy based so some evidence, and relevance is necessary theory alone is not substantive compared to evidence and experience.

You can link multiple arguments, but they can be argued separately by your opponent the whole round. I will state clear 3 times if you are not annunciating clearly but speed itself is typically not an issue. Theory alone is allowed but must be properly defended. This is not policy and evidence, while can be useful, is not necessary and solely a deciding factor.
