Judging qualifications:
After listening to innumerable rounds with competitors from A to AAAAAA, conversing with championship coaches in interpretation, and listening to clinics provided by Ann Shofner and Jana Riggins, I have determined that authenticity of the introduction and how it connects the speaker to the material performed is at the top of the checklist. That's what makes the material important. (The introduction should be memorized.) Second, the story must be interesting and beautifully told. The speaker must command the room with the delivery. While speaking skills and bookwork are important to the performance, those things should not determine top placement. To attain all four objectives, introduction, command performance, speaking skills, and smooth bookwork would be the goal of interpretation performers.
