Judging qualifications:
Debated all through high school. Got 3rd in LD at 5A State, and went to regionals Sophomore-Senior year. I’ve judged close to 40 rounds or so since graduating (haven’t this year due to COVID), and still love the community.

Judging Philosophy

CX

Rounds judged: 5
Judging approach: Tabula Rasa
Policy priority: Communication skills and resolution of substantive issues are of equal importance
Evidence philosophy: Quality of evidence is more important than quantity of evidence
Paradigm: Don’t have much experience judging CX, but I enjoy judging from the “if you run it well and can defend it, I’ll buy it” perspective.

LD

Rounds judged: 40
Approach: Resolution of substantive issues is more important than communication skills
Philosophy:
I’ll let students run just about anything if they can explain it well and articulate it with professional speech. At the end of the day I’ll always vote for strongest the arguments that withstood the entirety of the debate.
