Judging qualifications:
I was a debater in high school, debate captain at Lehman High School in 2014, and also debated in college in Boston, MA. I have competed in hundreds of debate tournaments, primarily in LD and extemp. I can judge LD and extemp, both domestic and foreign, most confidently, but I have done CX and congress in the past as well. In my career my job is to coach team members within the company, as well as present on a daily basis, so giving honest, constructive feedback is very 2nd nature to me.

Judging Philosophy

CX

Rounds judged: 0
Judging approach: Policy Maker
Policy priority: Communication skills and resolution of substantive issues are of equal importance
Evidence philosophy: Quality of evidence is more important than quantity of evidence
Paradigm: In CX the thing I look for is the competitor that can use the quality of evidence to back up key arguments in their case. The better the evidence stacks in your favor the more likely I am to vote for your case. Using time wisely and using the cx portion of the debate to your advantage is also key for me.

LD

Rounds judged: 4
Approach: Communication skills and resolution of substantive issues are of equal importance
Philosophy:
I'm a huge voter on the value presented to me and whos case best meets that value. I want to see quality arguments that uphold that value but also show how the opponent fails to meet it. CX is important to me as well, as well as having an answer to each point brought up in the case. Dropping arguments does not tend to sit well with me either. I'm ok with speed however LD is based on persuasion and the speed needs to still have quality convincing arguments.
