Judging Philosophy
CX
Judging approach: Tabula Rasa
Policy priority: Communication skills and resolution of substantive issues are of equal importance
Evidence philosophy: Quantity of evidence and quality of evidence are of equal importance
Paradigm: I would like for everyone to come in and present the best version of their arguments they can put together. I would rather the debaters put their best arguments forward, I would rather them do something innovative than see the same argument every round because it's best practice when they see the same case they've seen a handful of times, unless that's their best refutation.
LD
Approach: Communication skills are more important than resolution of substantive issues
Philosophy:
Values and criterion debates are the basis of LD. Contentions are there to support the overall moral values that the V/C examine, but should not be the bones of the argument. This is a morality debate, in most resolutions, and I would like to see a morality / philosophical discussion instead of hard warrants and evidence.
