Judging Philosophy
CX
Judging approach: Policy Maker
Policy priority: Resolution of substantive issues is more important than communication skills
Evidence philosophy: Quality of evidence is more important than quantity of evidence
Paradigm: I will want to see evidence of thorough preparation, first and foremost, followed by competence in the delivery of argumentation, the formation of adequate questions during cross-examination and effective skills at rebuttal
LD
Approach: Resolution of substantive issues is more important than communication skills
Philosophy:
Communication skills are extremely important, and I will judge a competitor's competence as part of my formula for reaching a decision, but I also want to see that the competitor has arrived at the debate prepared to present and defend an insightful position.
