UIL Speech Judges

Judging qualifications:
I enjoyed a rich and fulfilling career is LD debate during my high school years. My experience has been with in person and virtual competitions as a result of the covid-19 pandemic. As a novice debater, I learned a great deal about writing my own cases and competing with those cases. Through virtual competition, I gained more insight into the value for clear and precise delivery of those cases. As a varsity LD debater, I medaled at invitational meets. My philosophy for judging LD debate is direct. Academic competition should first and foremost be a learning experience. The goal of every judge should be to provide constructive feedback that allows a debate student opportunity to gain understanding about ways in which to strengthen performance. LD judges are looking for clear tangibles in each round. However, the astute judge also looks for and addresses those entangle qualities of each debater.
