Judging qualifications:
During high school, I participated in multiple UIL events, including CX Debate, LD Debate, Prose/Poetry, and Extemporaneous Speaking. I competed in multiple tournaments events during all four years of high school, including regional and state events for CX Debate. I am familiar with all of the elements of Debate, and specialize in CX/Policy debate especially. I am familiar with the upcoming 2023-24 topic, the stock issues, debate styles, and can provide objective unbiased feedback to help students improve their skills and provide an effective level of judgement for speech and debate tournaments. Speech and debate taught me several skills such as the importance of effective communication, teamwork (with policy/CX specifically), and the ability to stay organized with a large volume of information. These skills have helped me to succeed in my work as a business analyst and provided the essential skills to get my Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees. Since graduating this past fall, I have been looking to find new avenues to take the knowledge that I have gained and pay it forward to others. Therefore, I would be interested in judging for events in the upcoming year.

Judging Philosophy

CX

Rounds judged: 0
Judging approach: Stock Issues
Policy priority: Communication skills and resolution of substantive issues are of equal importance
Evidence philosophy: Quality of evidence is more important than quantity of evidence
Paradigm: My judging paradigm is focused mostly on the stock issues to ensure there is structure around the debates. While information outside the stock issues can be presented, refuted, and defended (such as tabula rasa), the majority of the arguments should still center around the stock issues to ensure that the debate can be focused and all sides are able to effectively argue their sides. Focusing on the stock issues creates the rules of engagement for an equal playing field with all teams.
