Judging Philosophy
CX
Judging approach: Policy Maker
Policy priority: Communication skills and resolution of substantive issues are of equal importance
Evidence philosophy: Quantity of evidence and quality of evidence are of equal importance
Paradigm: I place an emphasis on the burden of the Affirmative team to defend the resolution as stated. Generally I can overlook delivery issues if the debater's point is understood. I heavily expect sportsmanship. Hypothetically, if all speakers were equally matched and all cases were somehow equally convincing, I would award the winner based on sportsmanship.
LD
Approach: Communication skills and resolution of substantive issues are of equal importance
Philosophy:
I expect debaters in LD to adequately and fairly address both the criterion and value of their opponent. The most convincing LD cases are the ones where the debater establishes that his contentions and criterion are compatible with the value and criterion of their opponent. Sportsmanship is crucial as I stated in my answer to my CX Philisophy.
