Judging qualifications:
During my time in debate, I competed in Lincoln Douglas, Public Forum, and Congress while also spectating several individual events and world schools rounds. I am qualified to judge these events as I come from a technical background meaning I understand the rules of these debate forms, and can recognize the qualities of a good debater. Since I have competed extensively, I know how to flow arguments, and will make sounds decisions, rather than arbitrary judgements at the end of the round. I am capable of giving good quality notes to the competitors I judge, and I will ultimately be able to help debaters do better as they progress in tournaments.

Approach: Communication skills and resolution of substantive issues are of equal importance
Philosophy:
LD debate has increasingly become a debate form of technicality with theories, shells, etc. rather than a true form of philosophically based, good quality debate. Spreading is okay to a certain extent, but the philosophy behind debate is to give students experience in properly vocalizing their opinions. Therefore, communication is an important part of how I will judge. If I cannot understand arguments due to the way they are communicated, I will simply not be able to judge the other half of a debate- the resolution of the issues. This aspect of debate is equally as important to me because fancy words and a good speaking tone is not the point of debate. I believe there is an intellectual side to debate and that you have to create well rounded arguments to fulfill the purpose of the activity. Therefore, I will judge with both of those aspects being of priority.
