Judging qualifications:
As far as "miles" go - I live in Shamrock not Canadian. So within 200 miles of Shamrock. I have a BS degree in speech communication - I have 2 years of study in nursing sciences, nutrition and psychology with emphasis on criminology. I coached speech and was OAP director and UIL coordinator for Shamrock High School 2003-2008 and have been at Canadian for 4 years. I was an actor in high school and took 7 years of private speech as well - plus participated in prose/poetry competitions all through high school. I have students who have been involved at state level the past three years for UIL. Logan Gatlin was state LD champion, Kaylee Scates was alternate for state competition and Connor Cipollone made state Congressional competition 2023. My judging philosophy is to FOLLOW THE GUIDELINES of UIL speech. Prose is different than dramatic interp and until UIL changes it, it needs to be practiced. Interpretation comes from volume, pitch, tonality and rate as well as posture, expression and minimal gesturing. Page turning is important - stance - etc..... In debate - no spreading. Spreading is ridiculous. If I cannot understand a student, I cannot judge them. I have judged several prose, poetry rounds as well as Dramatic interpretation - judged finals at Tech 2022.

Approach: Communication skills and resolution of substantive issues are of equal importance
Philosophy:
Favor students who work in the philosophical "perfect world" form of LD. Those who think outside of the box yet have delved into research and are passionate and knowledgeable about the resolution at hand. I have judged many LD rounds at several levels.
