Judging qualifications:
I competed in Speech and Debate all four years of my high school career, where I went to state in Congress debate. I’ve also competed at regionals for CX debate as well as LD. Speech and Debate was a huge impact on my life, I use a lot of the thinking and social skills I’ve learned from speech and debate till this day. It has helped me not only during high-school but as well as my military career, helping me win awards by answering in person questions from a board of high ranking people. Recently I’ve used my speaking and interview skills to land a job with Invenergy as a windmill technician.
Judging Philosophy
CX
Judging approach: Policy Maker
Policy priority: Communication skills and resolution of substantive issues are of equal importance
Evidence philosophy: Quality of evidence is more important than quantity of evidence
Paradigm: I am big on case structure. If you can defend your case and show why the opponents case/ arguments are not valid compared to your case shows a good CX team. Getting your case across to me and clearly define what you are standing for goes along way.
LD
Approach: Communication skills and resolution of substantive issues are of equal importance
Philosophy:
For LD debate presentation is big but if you can present well and have a great case or at least show why your case is greater for the topic.
