Judging qualifications:
I have competed in these events before and am familiar with both the demand and rules that contestants have to follow. I have also received my bachelor of arts in English from the University of Texas at Austin and studied rhetoric and literature in an argumentative context.
My philosophy on judging these events is that any participants are there to both display and grow their research, communication, performance, and debate skills. I believe that the most valuable skills in these contexts are the preparation of evidence, text, or information, the ability to thoroughly present or perform confidently, and a willingness to learn from comments and criticism.
Judging Philosophy
CX
Judging approach: Stock Issues
Policy priority: Communication skills and resolution of substantive issues are of equal importance
Evidence philosophy: Quality of evidence is more important than quantity of evidence
Paradigm: If the participants are able to effectively communicate the problem, evidence, and proposed solutions to a given topic then they have made an effective case. In the examination periods, if the participants are able to identify issues and defend their stance from any major criticism, then they have also made an effective defense.
