Judging qualifications:
UIL Speech events were a huge part of my life growing up. I began competing in Poetry/Prose in Elementary school and then did Speech and CX Debate throughout high school. I spent most of my weekends competing and went to state multiple times. I have judging experience at invitational tournaments and the state tournament. Speech and debate was the most important activity I did as a child that helped prepare me for college and work life. It is so important and I want to be back in the Speech and Debate community.
Judging Philosophy
CX
Judging approach: Policy Maker
Policy priority: Communication skills and resolution of substantive issues are of equal importance
Evidence philosophy: Quality of evidence is more important than quantity of evidence
Paradigm: I do feel that communicating effectively is important in CX Debate. I do take my own prior knowledge and judgements out while hearing the affirmative case. I also would rather be presented quality evidence over many pieces of irrelevant information from sources that are biased.
LD
Approach: Communication skills and resolution of substantive issues are of equal importance
Philosophy:
Communication is important and evidence should be properly cited. I like some type of framing mechanism but it does not matter which one. I am more of a policy judge.
