Judging qualifications:
I personally competed in 6A UIL CX State and won Bronze Speaker as an Octafinalist (2023) and then Fourth Place Speaker as the Fifth Place Team (2024). Additionally, I got Third in Informative Speaking (2023) and made it to Regionals in Informative (2023, 2024) and Poetry (2024). In the TFA State circuit, which I know bears differences from UIL, I finalled in Congress (2024) and semifinaled in US Extemp (2022, 2023, 2024). In the national circuit, I finalled at the UK-TOC in Poetry/Prose (2024) and Extemp (2024). Now, I continue to compete in the college level in speech while still judging local tournaments in the Houston and Dallas area. I coach when needed for Seven Lakes.

Judging Philosophy

CX

Rounds judged: 0
Judging approach: Tabula Rasa
Policy priority: Communication skills and resolution of substantive issues are of equal importance
Evidence philosophy: Quantity of evidence is more important than quality of evidence
Paradigm: Affirmative teams should provide a plan and negative teams should have a prepared series of off-case strategies. I prefer DAs and CPs, but my threshold for Ks and Ts is higher. Teams should not abuse speed and remember that this is still a communication-based event.

LD

Rounds judged: 3
Approach: Communication skills and resolution of substantive issues are of equal importance
Philosophy:
Debaters should convince me through affirmative and negative arguments and well-structured speeches. Sourcing information is important but students still need to implicate their evidence in relation to the arguments of the round. Speed should not be abused.
