Judging qualifications:
Policy- My favorite style of debate in both high school and college. I broke to out-rounds at UIL CX State in 2014, making history for my high school. In my short time with Blinn College in 2017, I competed in 1v1 Policy debate (LD) and continued to develop a love for the style of debate.
Extemp- I competed in persuasive extemp in high school for 2 years, qualifying for regionals and state alternate my senior year (2015). This is such a powerful event because it transformed me as a communicator for the rest of my life. Since I keep up with current events and love to hear new takes on them, this is something that I would thoroughly enjoy judging.
Judging Philosophy
CX
Judging approach: Policy Maker
Policy priority: Communication skills and resolution of substantive issues are of equal importance
Evidence philosophy: Quantity of evidence and quality of evidence are of equal importance
Paradigm: I believe that the format of policy debate should be a decision between the status quo and the plan presented (in compliance with the resolution). Competitors should present the judge(s) with a narrative that argues in favor of whether or not the plan should be passed, and what the impacts will be of each. Everyone needs to be able to learn and grow from each round. There is a difference between being rude and assertive so don't get carried away.
