Judging qualifications:
I have 8 years experience coaching and judging LD, congress, extemporaneous speaking, and prose/poetry interpretation. I have a PhD in English with a focus on written discourse. I prefer quality and depth of argumentation to mere quantity of argumentation. I think a judge should base the decision on which debater more effectively resolved the central questions of the resolution rather than on insignificant dropped arguments. Please keep your delivery at a moderate pace and clear. LD - I lean towards a more traditional LD Value/Criterion debate. I'll listen to progressive argumentation, but I feel that you'll have to do more work for me to go for it. I appreciate clear analysis of why you should win in the final rebuttals.

Judging Philosophy

CX

Rounds judged: 0
Judging approach: Stock Issues
Policy priority: Communication skills and resolution of substantive issues are of equal importance
Evidence philosophy: Quality of evidence is more important than quantity of evidence
Paradigm: While I am comfortable judging any type of round, my preference is a more traditional round. Debate rounds that are more progressive (kritikal affs, performance, etc...) are totally fine, but you'll do best to slow down and go for depth over breadth here. Writing the ballot for me in the last few speeches can be helpful.
