Judging Philosophy

CX

Rounds judged: 0
Judging approach: Tabula Rasa
Policy priority: Communication skills and resolution of substantive issues are of equal importance
Evidence philosophy: Quantity of evidence is more important than quality of evidence
Paradigm: I evaluate the round based solely on the arguments and frameworks provided by the debaters, without inserting my biases or preferences. I prioritize clarity, logic, and how well each side meets the burden of proof within the structure they've established. The debaters should explain why their framework or interpretation of the round should guide my decision. Strong communication skills, along with well-supported and clear arguments, are crucial in ensuring I fully understand the issues being debated.

LD

Rounds judged: 0
Approach: Communication skills and resolution of substantive issues are of equal importance
Philosophy:
My basic LD judging philosophy balances both communication skills and the resolution of substantive issues. I expect debaters to clearly articulate their arguments while presenting strong, well-reasoned positions on the resolution. I focus on how effectively debaters uphold their value frameworks, clash with opposing arguments, and provide philosophical justification for their stances. I approach the round without bias, and weigh the debate based on the clarity, coherence, and depth of the arguments presented, while also appreciating well-executed delivery and persuasion.
