Judging qualifications:
I feel like a list would be more engaging than fluff so: -2020 started my obsession with slam poetry on YouTube -That summer I worked on transcribing and weaving several pieces for myself and classmates -My sister did this a few years before me and I had her successful piece under my belt -It wasn’t perfect, so the next school year, I found the perfect pieces for ME -I got 2nd at Bi-District, but couldn’t end up competing at the next level For extemp, I was never great at getting long enough, but I understand that every speech I gave was shortened by my own anxieties. I competed in LD and CX and I had a pretty even win and loss ratio.

Judging Philosophy

CX

Rounds judged: -
Judging approach: Policy Maker
Policy priority: Communication skills and resolution of substantive issues are of equal importance
Evidence philosophy: Quality of evidence is more important than quantity of evidence
Paradigm: For the resolution, I’m not opinionated in this at all. Being a creative, I should have thoughts on it, but I would have to hear out both sides and take in their ideas of incorporating it into law. I’m looking for a pair who knows how and who, meaning what to do and what department would be doing it. I also keep track of each point given and if it isn’t shot down by the opposition then it stands, if it is shot and properly defended it stands. I was taught that it’s always easier for Neg to win unless the Aff was prepared for anything. It’s very important that I understand 90% of the words, which I typically am able to even with fast-talkers. I also notice how comfortable the speaker is with what they’re saying.

LD

Rounds judged: -
Approach: Communication skills and resolution of substantive issues are of equal importance
Philosophy:
For the given prompt, I personally have a stance on standardized testing. However the resolution is very strongly worded, so it would really get down to the evidence I’m shown and how articulate the speaker gives it. For this I would be weighing each side on the effect it had on students and educators.
