Judging qualifications:
I've judged UIL Debate in the past, worked with students prepping for LD, CX, Extemp, and Prose/Poetry. Last year, I revived the Debate program at Molina High School in Dallas--my students won the Dallas Urban Debate Alliance Winter 2023 Championships, Outstanding Debate Program in the Spring 2024, and routinely won Top Speaker awards during my time in the circuit. My degree is in English Literature with a concentration in Post-Colonial Theory, minor in Creative Writing. I've taught high school English for 5 years and am currently a librarian in Dallas. Due to health problems when I was younger, my passion for Speech and Debate was not fully realized. I'm making up for lost time now, and thoroughly enjoy sharing in the excitement and accomplishments of current students.

Judging Philosophy

CX

Rounds judged: 0
Judging approach: Tabula Rasa
Policy priority: Communication skills and resolution of substantive issues are of equal importance
Evidence philosophy: Quality of evidence is more important than quantity of evidence
Paradigm: I'm looking for clash, impact, clear link between evidence/claims. I lean toward Comparative Worlds. Respect--good sportsmanship. Clarity, speed is okay as long as the argument is comprehensible.

LD

Rounds judged: 0
Approach: Communication skills and resolution of substantive issues are of equal importance
Philosophy:
I prefer explicit framework; strong clash is required; impacts should be tied to framework; clarity is good, substance is better. Open to well-constructed Kritiks. Most comfortable with a moderate speaker speed. Like CX, I lean toward Comparative Worlds. Respect is a must. I vote for the debater who best justifies their value framework and applies its application to the resolution.
