UIL Academics – High School Spelling and Vocabulary
The definition of a word is the determining factor for the correct spelling. Alternate spellings based on etymological information of the word is not acceptable. 

The State Executive Committee issued the following penalties.

Marlin High School – The State Executive Committee issued Coach Lawrence Gullette a public reprimand and one-year probation for ejection from a contest.

Mount Vernon High School – The State Executive Committee issued Coach Brad Floyd a public reprimand, three-year probation, and suspension for the first five games of the 2017-2018 basketball season for violations of the UIL Constitution & Contest Rules and Off-Season and Non-School Participation Regulations.

Mount Vernon High School – The State Executive Committee issued Coach Joe Thomas a public reprimand and one-year probation for violations of the UIL Constitution & Contest Rules and Off-Season and Non-School Participation Regulations.

Mount Vernon High School – The State Executive Committee issued Mount Vernon High School a public reprimand and two-year probation for violations of the UIL Constitution & Contest Rules and Off-Season and Non-School Participation Regulations.

Silverton High School – The State Executive Committee issued Coach Samuel Isbell a public reprimand and three-year probation for ejection from a contest while on probation.
