The State Softball and Baseball Championships will wrap up a year of competition for high school athletics.
The Softball Tournament will conclude June 1 at Red and Charline McCombs Field at the University of Texas at Austin. The Baseball Tournament will run Wednesday, June 5 through Saturday, June 8 at Dell Diamond and UFCU Disch-Falk field at the University of Texas at Austin.
But while the tournaments and meets will conclude in early June, training and learning opportunities will continue throughout the summer in all departments of the League.
The Academic Department will host the Capital Conference July 12-13. Held at The University of Texas at Austin, the Capital Conference offers everything a speech coach, theatre director, academic coach or coordinator—high school or elementary, middle or junior high—needs to know, from eligibility rules to setting up a budget to prose and poetry selections to researching the cross-examination debate resolution. The two-day conference will feature many of the state's most outstanding and successful academic coaches and coordinators as well as many of the League's state contest directors.
Also, the Interscholastic League Press Conference will host a four-day summer workshop, June 21-24. The workshop provides intense instruction for students and advisers to help them hone their skills and prepare for the upcoming year. The ILPC Summer Workshop offers classes in yearbook, newspaper, broadcasting, online journalism and photography.
The athletic department will spend much of the summer travelling the state to provide trainings and conferences for coaches and athletic directors.
And the music department will spend the bulk of the summer meeting and planning to prepare for the upcoming year. The Band Prescribed Music List Committee will meet to finalize the PML for the fall, and the Vocal Sight Reading Committee will meet to make the selections for the spring. The department also will host an advisory meeting with representatives from all 28 regions to discuss proposals to go forward to the Legislative Council in the fall.
Even though the competition is over for the year, every department at the League will have a productive and challenging summer preparing for the 2013-14 school year.
