For the first time in the history of UIL volleyball, the state tournament was not played in the Austin area because of a date conflict with the F-1 races. The tournament was moved to the Curtis Culwell Center in Garland ISD, and it appears to have been a success.

"There were no real disadvantages,” Peter Contreras, assistant athletic director and tournament director, said. “Parking for our teams and spectators was not an issue, and the fact the facility has four locker rooms for teams participating was a big advantage."

Before securing a site for the 2013 state tournament, Contreras said the League will look at several factors.

“We will review last week's tournament like we do after every state tournament,” he said. “We also need to see if conflicts that existed this year with Austin and San Marcos venues and hotels will be problems again next year.  No single issue or factor is a deal breaker.  We just need to make sure we are continuing to offer our schools and students the best possible state tournament experience.”

Contreras said while the site was different this year, the competition was just at heated as usual.

"If the fact that only one of the 10 semifinals matches went three games is any indication, the competition was very good this year,” he said. “The championship games at UIL events are always very exciting and this year was no exception. The 5A contest between Coppell and New Braunfels was a very exciting five-set match and a great way to cap the tournament."

State Conference titles went to:

1A- Jewett Leon HS
2A – Brock HS
