Basketball Broadcast FAQs
BROADCAST: Live or tape-delayed video footage of a contest in its entirety that can be transmitted through television, Internet Web stream, Webcast, video podcast, smart phone apps, tablet computer apps, closed-circuit channels, weather cameras or any other medium.
- Are there broadcast restrictions for Basketball during the regular season?
- No. The only sport with telecast restrictions during the regular season is football. A Basketball contest during the regular season may be telecast live at any time with permission from both schools involved. All broadcasts must be in accordance with UIL guidlines.
- Do I need permission to do a live broadcast of a Basketball contest?
- Yes. To do a live or tape-delayed broadcast of a softball contest that occurs during the regular season, you must get prior approval from all schools involved. If the event is occurring at a neutral site where neither team plays its regular home games, you must also get approval from the venue.
- Do I need permission to do a tape-delayed broadcast of a Basketball contest?
- Yes. To do a tape-delayed broadcast of a Basketball contest that occurs during the regular season, you must get prior approval from all schools involved. If the event is occurring at a neutral site where neither team plays its regular home games, you must also get approval from the venue.
- Do I need permission to do a broadcast of a Basketball contest in the playoffs?
- Yes. To do a live or tape-delayed broadcast of a basketball contest that occurs during the playoffs, you must submit the proper request form and receive written approval from UIL. You must also get prior approval from all schools involved. If the event is occurring at a neutral site where neither team plays its regular home games, you must also get approval from the venue. - Do I need permission to do a live broadcast of a contest at the UIL State Basketball Tournament?
- Yes. Due to the agreement with the UIL’s broadcast partner, prior approval for a live broadcast at the UIL State Basketball Tournament must go through the UIL office to determine if a live broadcast can be done.
