FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
AUSTIN, TX— The 2006 Conference 4A state basketball championship won by Dallas South Oak Cliff High School has been forfeited, and Fort Worth Dunbar High School will be designated as the champion.
After an internal investigation, Dallas ISD determined that an ineligible player participated in both the regional and state basketball tournaments in 2006. The minimum penalty for allowing an ineligible player to participate is forfeiture of those contests in which the player participated. Dallas ISD has indicated to the UIL that they have accepted the minimum penalty, and have therefore forfeited the 2006 Conference 4A title.
Fort Worth Dunbar High School, defeated by Dallas South Oak Cliff in the state championship game will now be designated by the UIL as the state champion. The game will be listed as a 2-0 win in favor of Fort Worth Dunbar in tournament records, and all state tournament records set by that game will be expunged.
