FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

AUSTIN, Texas – The five winners of the 2011-12 UIL Lone Star Cup were announced Monday.

With five state championships in the 2011-12 season, Southlake Carroll High School captured its third Lone Star Cup victory and first in Conference 5A with 100 points. The Dragons’ five state titles, most among Lone Star Cup winners, came in football, boys and girls cross country and boys and girls swimming & diving.

Austin Lake Travis High School scored 112 Lone Star Cup points, the most in school history, en route to its first-ever Lone Star Cup victory. The Cavaliers repeated as state champions in volleyball, football and boys golf and earned points for participating at the state level in marching band, team tennis, girls golf and baseball.

With state championship victories in academics and boys basketball, a state runner-up in football and as reigning 3A marching band state champs, Argyle High School won its third Lone Star Cup trophy. Argyle and Southlake Carroll are the only schools to win Lone Star Cups in multiple conferences. The Eagles were champions in 2006 in 2A and 2009 in 3A.

White Oak High School captured its first Lone Star Cup trophy after winning state championships in academics and boys basketball. The Roughnecks also placed fourth at the state marching band contest and were state semifinalists in volleyball.

After state runner-up finishes in academics and girls track & field and lengthy playoff runs in volleyball and softball, Lindsay High School claimed its sixth Lone Star Cup trophy. With its six victories, The Knights have the most Lone Star Cup wins in Conference 1A and are only three behind overall leader Dallas Highland Park.

The UIL Lone Star Cup recognizes five high schools (one in each of the five UIL classifications) based on their overall team achievement in a variety of sanctioned athletic and academic championships. All UIL member high schools in good standing are included for contention for the UIL Lone Star Cup.

The UIL Lone Star Cup program began during the 1997-98 season.
