FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

AUSTIN, Texas – The University Interscholastic League announced the six winners of the 2017-18 UIL Lone Star Cup on Monday.

Conroe The Woodlands went back-to-back, winning its second consecutive UIL Lone Star Cup in Conference 6A. The Highlanders won state championships in boys cross country, girls swimming & diving and boys track & field on the way to its seventh overall cup victory. The Conference 6A champion also earned points with a state runner-up finish in boys swimming & diving and was a state bronze medal winner in girls golf and volleyball.

Prosper captured its first UIL Lone Star Cup victory with a state championship in volleyball, state runner-up finish in boys wrestling and third-place finish at the academic state meet. The Conference 5A winner also earned points by advancing to state in marching band, and playoff runs in multiple team sports. Prosper’s 102 total Lone Star Cup points are the most in school history.

In Conference 4A, Argyle earned a record-breaking seventh consecutive UIL Lone Star Cup. The win also gives the Eagles a total of nine Cup victories, which is second most all-time. Argyle earned 119 points (most of any school in 2017-18) with state championships in academics, girls basketball and baseball, and state runners-up finishes in marching band, volleyball and boys golf.

Returning to the top of its class, Brock won its fifth UIL Lone Star Cup in 2017-18. The Eagles had multiple state appearances with a state silver medal in football and state bronze medal in girls golf, girls basketball, softball and baseball. With 86 points in Conference 3A, Brock set a new school record for Lone Star Cup points.

Mason captured its first UIL Lone Star Cup victory with a school-record 70 points in Conference 2A. The Punchers earned points for the most match wins at state tennis, a state runner-up finish in one-act play and as a state semifinalist in girls basketball. Mason’s girls cross country, football, boys basketball, academics, softball and baseball teams also contributed points toward the victory.

With state championships in girls cross country and girls basketball, Nazareth claimed its second consecutive UIL Lone Star Cup in Conference 1A. The Swifts were state runners-up in boys basketball, had the most match wins at state tennis and earned points in academics, football and baseball.

The UIL Lone Star Cup recognizes six high schools (one in each of the six UIL conferences) based on their overall team achievement in a variety of sanctioned academic, athletic and music championships. All UIL member high schools in good standing are included for contention for the UIL Lone Star Cup. Trophy presentations will take place in the fall at events chosen by the winning schools.

The UIL Lone Star Cup program began during the 1997-98 school year.
