FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

AUSTIN— Dr. Bradley Kent has been announced as the Director of Music for the University Interscholastic League. Kent began his role as the Director of Music on September 1, following the retirement of previous Director of Music Richard Floyd.

Kent previously served as the Associate Music Director for the UIL. He has been transitioning into the director position throughout the year. Kent will serve as director for his first state event on November 4-5 at the UIL Marching Band State Contest at the Alamodome in San Antonio.

“I couldn’t be more excited to be UIL Music Director,” Kent said. “I have asked a lot of questions of Richard Floyd over the past year. The chance to work with him side-by-side has been really great, since he has done this job since 1984. The way the League set that up, I think was really terrific and has helped the transition process for me.”

Before coming to work at the League, Kent was the Director of Fine Arts in Richardson ISD. Kent is a frequent guest conductor and clinician for high school music groups around the state and he wants the hands on experience to continue as the Music Director.

“Dr. Kent has vast knowledge of music and the UIL system,” said UIL Executive Director Dr. Charles Breithaupt. “He will be great for the UIL and music programs across the state.”

Kent received his bachelors of music education from Louisiana State University. He completed a Masters of Music and a Doctor of Musical Arts from The University of Texas.
