AUSTIN, TX- Several coaches were issued penalties and the eligibility of student-athletes was decided after decisions were handed down by the State Executive Committee of the University Interscholastic League Tuesday.
Former Kennedale High School coach Kenni Patton was issued a public reprimand and one-year probation, along with a suspension from the first three athletic contests this season for violation of the UIL amateur rule.
Additionally, former San Antonio Burbank High School coach Rudy Vera was issued a three-year suspension from coaching in a UIL member school for violation of Section 51 (a) (8) of the UIL Constitution and Contest Rules.
Coach Steve Chapman of Corpus Christi Calallen High School was given a public reprimand and probation until March of 2009 for being ejected from a contest while on probation. He was also suspended from the first five baseball games of the 2007 season.
Furthermore, the Irving MacArthur High School choir director was issued a public reprimand and put on probation for two years for numerous UIL rule violations.
In other action, the committee granted an appeal for the length of ineligibility for a Round Rock McNeil High School student-athlete, making the student eligible for varsity athletics this school year. Conversely, a Skidmore-Tynan High School student will remain ineligible for varsity athletics after the State Executive Committee upheld the previous decision by the District 31-2A Executive Committee.
