FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
2009 UIL Academic State Meet
May 25-26 State Academic Meet Austin
The 2009 University Interscholastic League State Academic Meet will welcome over 3,000 participants from over 1,000 schools across Texas to the University of Texas-Austin campus. State Champions will be crowned in each conference 1A through 5A, in all 22 academic contests as well as one-act play performances. Contests will be conducted over the two-day period in one-act play, journalism, speech & debate, math & science, language arts, business education, computer science, and social studies.
“Students who participate in UIL academics are as competitive and dedicated as any athlete or musician,” said Treva Dayton, UIL Academic Director. “They devote untold hours to practice and invitational meet competition, and for many, these hours will be among the most important they spend during their high school careers.”
Through participation at the Academic State Meet, students qualify for the Texas Interscholastic League Foundation scholarships. Since its inception in 1954, the TILF has awarded over $22 million to over 16,000 Texas high school students. Grants and donations from foundations and individuals fund these academic scholarships, and each dollar donated to the TILF goes directly to Texas high school students for scholarships.
