FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
AUSTIN, TX — UIL officials will have a new tool at their disposal during the 2012 UIL Girls and Boys Basketball State Championships. For this first time in UIL basketball state tournament history, instant replay will be utilized for game-ending plays that have an impact on the outcome of games.
The National Federation of High Schools Basketball rule book, rule 2-2-1 'Officials' Jurisdiction' states: A state association may permit game or replay officials to use a replay monitor during state championship series contests.
The UIL has made the decision to make this rule adoption for the 2012 basketball state tournaments.
The stated rule for the use of replay in association with basketball state tournament games:
"Officials may use a replay monitor during state tournament contests to determine if a try for goal at the expiration of time in the fourth quarter or any overtime period (0:00 on the game clock) should be counted to determine the outcome of a game, and if so, determine if its is a two or a three-point goal."
