FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

AUSTIN, TX— The University Interscholastic League will honor Salado High School on Saturday, August 23 for its 2014 Class 2A UIL Lone Star Cup victory. The Lone Star Cup trophy presentation will take place at the Meet the Eagles Night at 7 p.m.

“The UIL Lone Star Cup honors the best overall academic and athletic programs in the state of Texas,” said UIL Executive Director Dr. Charles Breithaupt. “It takes contributions from every student, teacher and coach in all facets of UIL competition to win this outstanding award. The winning schools and communities should be proud of this incredible achievement.”

With state championships in academics and boys golf and state runner-up finishes in girls golf and one-act play, Salado earned 82 total Lone Star Cup points for the 2013-14 school year. The Eagles also earned Lone Star Cup points in boys and girls basketball, boys and girls soccer, softball and baseball. This is the second consecutive and third overall UIL Lone Star Cup victory for Salado High School.

The UIL Lone Star Cup is awarded annually to five high schools, one in each of the five UIL classifications (1A, 2A, 3A, 4A and 5A), based on their team performance in district and state championships. The winning schools in each classification receive the UIL Lone Star Cup trophy and a $1,000 scholarship, also presented by the UIL. UIL Compliance Director Ed Stidham will be on hand to make the presentation.

The UIL Lone Star Cup program began during the 1997-98 season.
