AUSTIN, TX- Qualifying to the UIL State Swimming and Diving meet will change in the 2007-08 school year, according to school superintendents across the state. The results of the University Interscholastic League referendum ballot sent to all school superintendents are in, and have been approved by the Commissioner of Education.
By a margin of 214 to 132, school superintendents voted to change the way swimmers qualify to the UIL state swim meet. Starting in the 2007-08 school year, the first place winner in each of the eight regional swimming and diving meets and the next eight swimmers with the best regional final times, regardless of region, will advance to the UIL state swim meet. Currently, the number of qualifiers per region is limited to four.
