FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

AUSTIN, TX— The State Executive Committee of the University Interscholastic League handed down decisions on the eligibility of student-athletes and issued penalties to schools for violation of UIL rules on Wednesday.

Edcouch-Elsa High School and head football coach Joe Solis were issued a three-year public reprimand and placed on probation for three years for violation of the UIL eight-hour rule. In addition, Solis will be suspended from coaching for the rest of the football season. Edcouch-Elsa will have to forfeit the first three games of the season, but will not be required to forfeit any district contests.

Student-athletes from Conroe College Park, Cedar Hill High School, Harlingen South High School, and three students from Prime Prep Academy were denied their appeals for varsity eligibility upholding the previous ruling of the district executive committees. After hearing testimony from all interested parties, it was ruled that the student-athletes changed schools for athletic reasons.

In other action, an appeal for varsity eligibility from a San Antonio Breckenridge High School student-athlete was granted after it was determined that the student athlete did not change schools for athletic reasons.
