AUSTIN, TX- A Bryan High School student will remain ineligible for varsity athletics and Mertzon Irion County High School will be allowed to compete for district honors during the 2006-07 school year as a result of decisions handed down by the State Executive Committee of the University Interscholastic League Tuesday.
After hearing testimony from all interested parties, the State Executive Committee ruled that the student athlete in question had changed schools for athletic purposes and should remain ineligible for varsity athletics at Bryan High School.
Additionally, the State Executive Committee granted an appeal by Mertzon Irion County High School to amend a previous penalty issued to the school by the District 12-1A Executive Committee. The school had previously been disqualified from district honors by the district executive committee for two years, but after hearing testimony, the State Executive Committee reduced the penalty to only one year. The school will be eligible to compete for district honors in the 2006-07 school year.
