AUSTIN, TX- Four appeals were denied regarding student eligibility and penalties were issued after decisions were handed down by the State Executive Committee Tuesday.

Student athletes from Denton High School, Tyler High School, Houston Cypress Fairbanks High School and Waco Midway High School all had their appeals for varsity eligibility denied by the State Executive Committee for changing schools for athletic purposes. The students will remain ineligible for varsity athletics for the remainder of the school year.

In other action, the committee issued a public reprimand and three years probation to Coach Priest Johnson of Denton McMath Middle School for violation of Section 51 (a) (8), Recruiting.

Additionally, San Antonio Southwest High School will not have to forfeit any volleyball games this season for violation of the amateur rule. Instead, the school was issued a public reprimand and the volleyball team was placed on probation for one-year. The volleyball coach and school officials will also be required to appear before the State Executive Committee at a future date to face possible sanctions.
